BARDONECCHIA - In March, Bardonecchia will host two prestigious events dedicated to Telemark skiing, confirming its status as one of the most active and proactive locations in promoting the romantic revival of free-heel skiing.
From 10 to 13 March, the FIS Junior Telemark World Championships will take place, featuring young emerging talents. Here is the detailed programme: Tuesday 10th training on the slopes; Wednesday 11th Sprint competition; Thursday 12th Classic competition; Thursday 13th Parallel Sprint competition and Team Parallel Sprint competition.
On 15th and 16th March, the penultimate stage of the FIS Telemark World Cup will take place, with the big names in this discipline taking to the slopes to compete for the coveted Crystal Cup. On Sunday 15th, the athletes competing in the Parallel Sprint race will compete, while on Monday 16th it will be the turn of those competing in the Classic race.
The track chosen to host both competitions will be the FISI 50 Colomion slope, with the finish line in the splendid location of Pian del Sole, easily accessible, even for the public without skis, by taking the chairlift from Campo Smith.
Numerous participants from seven countries are expected in Bardonecchia, with Italy's Raphael Mahlknecht leading the Italian team.
The awards ceremonies for both the Junior World Championships and the FIS World Cup will take place at Campo Smith, at Harald's. This is a tribute to the Norwegian pioneer Harald Smith who, together with Paolo Kind, built a ski jumping facility in Bardonecchia, which was inaugurated in 1909. That facility, where Harald Smith himself set the world record at the time (43m), became the springboard that led to the birth of the international ski resort of Bardonecchia.
