The curtain has officially fallen on the FIS Junior Telemark World Championships in Bardonecchia. Three days of thrilling action on the Colomion slopes saw the discipline’s finest international talents compete for the world titles, cementing the Piedmontese resort’s status as the world capital of “free heel”.
Today’s final day, Friday 13 March, was dedicated to the speed and adrenaline of the Parallel (individual and team) events. On the “La Stampa” slope, finishing in the Pian del Sole area, the athletes competed in knockout heats, putting on a spectacular show for the spectators. Norway was crowned the best team. In the individual events, Frick Coletta (GER) and Walser Timo (SUI) stood on the top step of the podium for the women and men respectively.
A review of the World Championships
The World Championships, which began on Wednesday with the Sprint, saw Frenchwoman Lenaig Mansart dominate the women’s event and Swiss athlete Timo Walser secure a narrow victory in the men’s. Thursday saw the Classic race, the most gruelling and technical event on the FISI 50 track: once again, Lenaig Mansart triumphed, securing her second world title, alongside Sweden’s Alvin Noaksson.
It’s not over yet: the World Cup is coming
With the junior successes behind us, attention now turns to the ‘big names’. On Sunday 15 and Monday 16 March, once again at Pian del Sole, Bardonecchia will host the FIS Telemark World Cup. The discipline’s absolute top athletes will be on the slopes, chasing crucial points in the race for the prestigious Crystal Globe.
A big thank you goes to the Bardonecchia Ski team for the excellent preparation of the slopes, which ensured top-class competitive standards throughout the event. The ski season continues in fine style in Bardonecchia with excellent snow conditions on the slopes. Bardo looks forward to welcoming you for a skiing holiday over Easter.
