Paralympics World Championships 2029

FIS/IPC officials are in Bardonecchia this week to carry out a series of key inspections and finalise logistical arrangements ahead of the upcoming competitions. The focus is on preparations for the December training camp and the Para World Cup events scheduled for January and March 2027.

The Piedmont resort, already renowned for hosting the snowboard competitions at the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games, is now preparing to take centre stage in Paralympic winter sports. In three years’ time, Bardonecchia will host the 2029 World Championships, a landmark event that will bring Para Alpine Skiing and Para Snowboard together at a single venue for the first time.

The road to the Championships will feature several key milestones, with the official test event schedule now taking shape.

Bardonecchia: Competition and Test Event Calendar

  • 5–12 December 2026 | FIS/IPC Para Training Camp
The first event will welcome 150 athletes from several countries. Participants will receive dedicated support from medical professionals and technical specialists provided directly by FIS/IPC.
  • 13–16 January 2027 | Para Snowboard World Cup
Bardonecchia will host three official events on the Para Snowboard World Cup circuit.
  • 21–27 March 2027 | Para Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals
The Para Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals in Bardonecchia will see the season’s prestigious Crystal Globes officially awarded, bringing the 2026/2027 World Cup season to a close.

Logistical Challenges and a Spirit of Unity

The technical delegates’ inspections aim to ensure that the courses and facilities meet the stringent safety standards required for international competition.

During the 2029 World Championships, all teams will be accommodated at the Bardonecchia Olympic Village. This compact setup is designed to minimise travel times, encourage social interaction and bring athletes, coaches and team staff together as part of one big community.

“Para snow sports are one big family,” said Boštjan Anderlič, FIS Coordinator. “The test events over the coming seasons will be crucial in assessing timing systems, course readiness, safety procedures and volunteer programmes. They will also allow us to gather valuable operational feedback well ahead of 2029.”
