On the trail of art and faith, museums and chapels in Bardonecchia
A strong sense of religion and a great interest in art have always been present in Bardonecchia and consequently the resort has a rich artistic and architectural heritage of great interest to its visitors. There are as many as 53 religious buildings in the area of Bardonecchia, from the town itself to the mountain villages surrounding the resort with little churches and chapels dotted throughout the mountains.
There are numerous trails to discover some of these historic gems – the characteristic church spires, the Baroque altar-ledges, baptismal fonts, stone carvings, frescoes, sculptures and painted sculptures.
With such a rich heritage it is possible to combine nature walks with art and culture as walkers can discover some real Alpine treasures set in some of the most beautiful natural surroundings. The parish churches are usually open and accessible all year round; to visit the frescoed chapels it is worth consulting the programme of guided visits and the opening times of the individual buildings.
