Bardonecchia is one of the historic ski resort, since 1909 when were played the first Italian Ski Championships. It still has an important role to play as a tourist destination and hosted all the "Turin 2006" Olympic Snowboarding events and it also was the site of one of the Olympic Village.
Bardonecchia is a modern winter resort with a wide range of facilities. It sits in a sunny valley at 4265 ft (1300 metres) surrounded by beautiful mountains whose peaks reach more than 11482 ft (3500 metres) of hights.Bardonecchia is fore sure one of the most gorgeus spots of the Western Alps. It is easy to reach it by car, train and plane: the A32 motorway runs direct from Turin to Bardonecchia; the Rome to Paris international train route stops at Bardonecchia and Turin airport is not far away.
Bardonecchia is a true paradise for skiers and its slopes are maintained to the highest standards possible; you can have the most breath-taking views from the descents which begin high above the woods; the lower level pistes weave their way through fir-trees and larches with a difference of 4921 ft (1500 metres) from the top to the bottom. Extensive artificial snow-making machinery guarantees perfect conditions throughout whole winter season.
In the Pian del Colle area there are great opportunities for lovers of cross country skiing as well as for downhill skiers. Snowshoes trekking, skating, sled dogs, tennis, swimming and fitness (available indoors) are some of the sports available in Bardonecchia.
After-skiing activities are wide-ranging too from the numerous shows and events at the Palazzo delle Feste to the shops and boutiques of Via Medail and the entertainment organized by the ski reps. It is also possible to get a real sense of village life and traditions through the rich offer of local food, wine and hand-crafts available in the town.
